Artist Biography

W i l l i a m  R .  B e n t o n

Bill Benton is an artist whose work is comprised mainly of landscapes,  wildlife, and architectural subjects, each of which he approaches with equal enthusiasm.  He focuses much of his work on scenes from his home state of Kentucky, including both small towns and countryside, exploiting the natural beauty to be found there. During most of his art career his chosen medium has been watercolor, as he felt it has much more nuance and power.  However, he has recently been concentrating developing his oil painting technique.

He has always been an artist, yet has only been pursuing it professionally since 2008.  His artwork had been confined to drawing, but at the suggestion of one of his college professors he picked up painting.  He began watercolors while taking a semester in Venice Italy and took to it easily, but he has spent most of his professional career as a registered architect and father, painting only in his spare time. Reflecting change in priorities and public response to his work, he is now devoting most of his time to his paintings.

He has a strong, natural style that results in beautiful paintings, and his architectural renderings are steadily increasing in popularity.  His work is included in many private collections.  Pursuant to creating a substantial body of work, productivity is currently also a top priority.

His painting "Licking River II" was accepted into the National Watercolor Society's 89th Annual Exhibition shown in Brea, California in 2009.  Bill is a signature member of the NWS and plans to join other societies as he progresses.  He has shown works in several local shows thus far, and is organizing more as he searches for new outlets for exposure.
